John Murry MITCHELL, Congress, NY (1858-1905)
MITCHELL, John Murry, a Representative from New York; born in New York City March 18, 1858; attended Leggettâs School at New York City; was graduated from Columbia College, New York City, in 1877 and from the law department of that college in 1879; was admitted to the bar in 1879 and practiced in New York City; successfully contested as a Republican the election of James J. Walsh to the Fifty-fourth Congress; reelected to the Fifty-fifth Congress and served from June 2, 1896, to March 3, 1899; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1898 to the Fifty-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; died in Tuxedo Park, Orange County, N.Y., May 31, 1905; interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
