Only Pitcher to Win World Series Game in Three Different Decades
Updated February 23, 2017 | Factmonster Staff
The Question:
Can you tell me which pitcher won a World Series game in three different decades?
The Answer:
Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles won a World Series game in 1966, 1970, 1971 and 1983.
Palmer, who was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990, beat Sandy Koufax and the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-0, in Game 2 in 1966; Gary Nolan and the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3, in Game 1 in 1970; Bob Johnson and the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-3, in Game 2 in 1971; and finally, he won as a reliever during a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 in 1983.
Also, (while we have your attention) did you know that Palmer never gave up a grand slam despite pitching in 558 career games?
