Gail Collins

Gail Gleason earned a BA in journalism from Marquette University in 1969, and an MA in government from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After writing for the Fairpress in Westport (Connecticut) and Connecticut Magazine, Collins studied economic journalism at Columbia University in 1981 and 1982. She also became a columnist for United Press International in New York City. In 1985 Collins switched to the New York Daily News. Six years later, New York Newsday hired Collins. In 1995 Collins joined the editorial board of the New York Times. She was appointed editorial page editor of the Times in 2001. She has written three books, The Millenium Book, with her husband, Dan Collins, Scorpion Tongues: Gossip, Celebrity, and American Politics. and America's Women: Four Hundred Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates, and Heroines.
