John Hollander

Hollander's complex works examine the relationships between poetry and music and art and literature. Known for his scholarship and intellectual wordplay, Hollander was chosen by W. H. Auden to participate in the Yale Series of Younger Poets for his A Crackling of Thorns (1958). He won the Bollingen Prize in 1983 and is currently the Sterling Professor of English at Yale. His collections include Spectral Emanations (1978), Tesserae (1993), and The Figurehead (1999). He has edited several compilations and written numerous books of criticism.
