Tupac Shakur
gangsta rapper
Born: 6/16/1971
Birthplace: Brooklyn, New York
Gangsta rapper Shakur, who was killed in 1996 in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, offended many with his songs that celebrated violence and misogyny, but he also attracted a wide audience, selling millions of records. Despite his hard-core image, Shakur was an intelligent, well-read individual who had a budding acting career. He appeared in Poetic Justice (1993), Juice, and Gridlock'd (1997). He was also no stranger to legal trouble. At the time of his death, Shakur was out on bail pending appeal in a sexual assault trial. His recordings include All Eyez on Me and 2Pacalypse Now. The documentary Tupac: Resurrection (2003) explores the life and music of the dead hip-hop star with the words of his poetry and music, and through home movies, interviews, and conversations.
