Legendary in her Oscar-winning role as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939), Leigh also was famous for her marriage to actor Laurence Olivier. Her other successful films included Waterloo Bridge (1940), That Hamilton Woman (1941, opposite Olivier), and A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), for which she won a second Oscar for her striking performance as Blanche DuBois. Leigh long suffered from tuberculosis, which limited her acting career.
