G. David Low Biography

G. David Low was an astronaut who began his 12-year career at the age of 28, and made 540 trips around the Earth. He started working for NASA in 1984 and completed his first space mission in 1990 aboard the space shuttle Columbia on an 11-day mission. His father, George Low, worked for NASA and was on the team who first suggested putting a man on the moon to President John F. Kennedy. David Low earned bachelor degrees from Cornell and Washington and Lee University in mechanical engineering, and a master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford.
