Frederick T. Gates

After seven years in his own church as a Baptist minister, he helped to reorganize the University of Chicago, which brought him to the attention of John D. Rockefeller. The two began a working relationship in which Gates managed Rockefeller's philanthropic ventures and brought some respectability to Rockefeller's other activities. Gates established the General Education Board, the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, and helped establish the Rockefeller Foundation, all on Rockefeller's behalf.
