Harry George Ferguson

inventor
Born: 11/4/1884
Birthplace: Dromore, County Down, Ireland

He began working in his own business at age 16 in Belfast, and went on to build his own airplane, making the first flight in Ireland in 1909. He is most known for developing the Ferguson farm tractor, which allowed the operator to control the machinery through a series of hydraulic links from the driver's seat. Ferguson tractors were manufactured in the U.S. by Henry Ford until World War II, and were largely responsible for automating British agriculture after the War.
