Jack Murphy
Born: Feb. 5, 1923
Sports editor and columnist of The San Diego Union from 1951-80
instrumental in bringing AFL Chargers south from LA in 1961, landing Padres as NL expansion team in '69; and lobbying for 54,000-seat San Diego stadium that would later bear his name.
