  1. an uncontrollable outburst of emotion or fear, often characterized by irrationality, laughter, weeping, etc.
  2. a psychoneurotic disorder characterized by violent emotional outbreaks, disturbances of sensory and motor functions, and various abnormal effects due to autosuggestion.
