Shunsho

Shunsho (Katsukawa Shunsho) kätso͞oˈkäwä sho͝onˈshō [key], 1726–92, Japanese painter and printmaker. A painter of the ukiyo-e style (see Japanese art), in which costume design and color are executed with precision in an otherwise stylized setting, Shunsho specialized in portraits of Kabuki actors in their famous roles. Shunsho was noted for his ability to capture the actors' faces and to express their acting style pictorially.
