Stratas, Teresa, 1938–, Canadian soprano, b. Toronto as Anastasia Strataki, studied Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. She made her operatic debut in 1958 with the Canadian Opera Company in an acclaimed performance as Mimi in La Bohème. In 1959 she was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and also made her Met debut in a small role in Massenet's Manon. She again sang Mimi at her Covent Garden debut (1961) and at the Met (1962). Stratas was particularly known for her roles in Mozart and Puccini operas, and starred in the title role in Alban Berg's Lulu and as Jenny in Kurt Weill's Mahagonny. She also appeared in the feature film The Canadians (1961), starred in the Broadway musical Rags (1986), and sang in Zeffirelli's film La Traviata (1982) and the Weill documentary September Songs (1995).
