Granger, David Arthur, 1945–, Guyanese political leader and military officer. He served in the Guyanese army (1965–92), rising to the rank of brigadier and becoming commander of the Guyana Defense Force (1979–90) and national security adviser (1990–92). A member of A Partnership for National Unity, he served as leader of the opposition (2012–15) in the National Assembly. In 2015 Granger was elected president, heading a coalition government with the Alliance for Change. Granger founded the Guyana Review and has published numerous articles on military and security issues. His government lost a confidence vote in 2018. He fought the decision in the courts, ultimately losing in 2019, but did not set new elections until 2020. Granger's coalition lost the elections, but the result was not finalized until after a contentious recount.
