Sagasti Hochausler, Francisco Rafael, 1944–, Peruvian political leader. An industrial engineer by training, he has served as an adviser to Peruvian governments and as a government official, and has taught at Univ. of the Pacific and the Pontifical Catholic Univ., both in Peru, and the Wharton School of Business. From 1987 to 1992 he was chief of strategic planning at the World Bank. He entered politics in 2016, cofounding the Purple party, and was elected to Peru's congress in 2020. That year he was elected president of congress after his predecessor, Manuel Merino, became president of Peru following the removal of President Martín Vizcarra, and when Merino soon resigned, Sagasti succeeded him as president of Peru.
