Orban, Ludovic, 1963–, Romanian political leader. A member of the National Liberal party (PNL), he held government posts and was a city councilor in Bucharest in the 1990s before becoming Bucharest's deputy mayor (2004–7). Orban has subsequently served as Romania's transport minister (2007–8) and as a member of parliament (2008–16, 2020–). In 2017 he became PNL leader. In Oct., 2019, Prime Minister Dăncilă lost a no-confidence vote and President Iohannis named Orban prime minister. He formed a center-right minority government, lost a no-confidence vote in Feb., 2020, then won a confidence vote in March amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He resigned as prime minister in 2020 after the PNL failed to win a plurality in the parliamentary elections.
