Ryan, Nolan (Lynn Nolan Ryan, Jr.), 1947–, American baseball player, b. Refugio, Tex. A right-handed pitcher with a blazing fastball, he played with the New York Mets, the California Angels, the Houston Astros, and the Texas Rangers while in the major leagues (1967–93). He had 324 career wins, including a record seven no-hitters, and set records for career (5,714) and single-season (383) strikeouts. In 1999 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. After retiring Ryan worked in marketing for the Rangers and as a consultant for the Astros. He was named president of the Texas Rangers in 2008 and CEO in 2011; he retired as CEO in 2013.
