Coe, Sebastian Newbold, Baron Coe of Ranmore, 1956–, British runner, politician, and athletic official. He set several world records as a middle-distance runner, including one in the 800-m race that stood from 1981 to 1997. At the 1980 and 1984 Olympic games, he won gold in the 1500-m race and silver in the 800-m race. From 1992 to 1997 he was a Conservative member of Parliament. He was chairman of the organizing committee that brought the 2012 Olympic Games to London, and served as vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) from 2007. In 2015, amid widespread doping scandals in athletics, he was elected IAAF president; he elected to a second term in 2019. He was made a life peer in 2000.
