Glorioso Islands [key], Fr. Îles Glorieuses, island group, c.2 sq mi (5 sq km), in the Mozambique Channel, W Indian Ocean, 125 mi (200 km) WNW of N Madagascar, part of the Scattered Islands district within the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. A French possession since 1892, they are comprised of two small vegetation-covered coral islands, Île Glorieuse and Île du Lys, and three rock islets. Île Glorieuse, the largest island, has a small French military garrison and a weather and radio station. The Gloriosos are also claimed by Madagascar.
