Lockport

Lockport, industrial city (1990 pop. 24,426), seat of Niagara co., W N.Y., on the Erie Canal, in a rich fruit and dairy region; settled 1821, inc. 1865. Automotive parts; metal, paper, and plastic products; and chemicals are among Lockport's manufactures; a computer data center also is there. The city was built around a series of locks on the Erie Canal.
