Hoyerswerda

Hoyerswerda hoiˌərsvĕrˈdä [key], city, Saxony, SE Germany, on the Black Elster River; chartered 1371. Located in a lignite-mining area, it is an industrial city, manufacturing glass, bricks, and other products. Economic decline after German reunification has resulted in a significant population drop; Hoyerswerda was once a city of 75,000.
