The recipient of thirteen Emmy Awards, Charles Kuralt began his illustrious career as a journalist for the Charlotte News in 1955 and two years later was hired as a writer for CBS. He became familiar to national audiences in 1959 as the host of Eyewitness to History and went on to earn a reputation as a hard-edged news reporter. In 1967 he turned his talents to human-interest stories, investigating the hinterlands of America with his beloved long-running series On the Road (1967–80) and hosted CBS Sunday Morning (1979–94) before retiring to travel and write.
