Sundance Kid
(Harry Longabaugh)
outlaw
Born: 1870
Birthplace: Phoenixville, Pennsylvania
Famous outlaw and friend of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid joined with the “Wild Bunch”, a group of bank and train robbers led by Cassidy, in 1899. Between 1899 and 1901 he participated in bank and train robberies throughout the West. In 1901, Sundance, his girlfriend Etta Place, and Cassidy fled to New York City and then Argentina. After several years of ranching in Argentina, Cassidy and the Kid reverted to crime, robbing banks across South America, including Argentina and Bolivia. In 1908 the two were cornered by a group of soldiers in San Vincente, Bolivia. According to most sources the soldiers killed both Cassidy and Sundance; rumors that circulated placing them in Uruguay or living out their lives under assumed names in the United States have subsequently been proven false. The duo were popularly portrayed in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
Died: 1908?
