Anthony Francis TAURIELLO, Congress, NY (1899-1983)

TAURIELLO, Anthony Francis, a Representative from New York; born in Buffalo, Erie County, N.Y., August 14, 1899; attended the public schools; was graduated from the law school of Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenn., in 1929; was admitted to the Tennessee bar in 1929 and commenced the practice of law in Nashville, Tenn.; member of the Erie County (N.Y.) Board of Supervisors from October 1933 to December 1937, and Buffalo Common Council 1938-1941; deputy city treasurer 1942-1945; examiner for Reconstruction Finance Corporation, Buffalo, N.Y., from April 1946 to November 1946 and with War Assets Administration from November 1946 to May 1947; again a member of the Buffalo Common Council in 1948; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1936; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first Congress (January 3, 1949-January 3, 1951); was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1950 to the Eighty-second Congress, and for election in 1952 to the Eighty-third Congress; retail liquor dealer; again elected a member of Buffalo Common Council and served from 1954 to 1957; appointed to Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority in November 1961 on which he served until 1973; was a resident of Buffalo, N.Y., until his death there December 21, 1983; interment in United German and French Cemetery, Buffalo, N.Y.
