VAN DYKE, Carl Chester, a Representative from Minnesota; born in Alexandria, Douglas County, Minn., February 18, 1881; attended the common and high schools of Alexandria; taught school in Douglas County 1899-1901; during the Spanish-American War served as a private in Company B, Fifteenth Regiment, Minnesota Volunteer Infantry; was graduated from the St. Paul Law School; was admitted to the bar at St. Paul in 1916, but did not engage in extensive practice; elected commander in chief of the United Spanish War Veterans September 6, 1918; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth, Sixty-fifth, and Sixty-sixth Congresses and served from March 4, 1915, until his death in Washington, D.C., May 20, 1919; interment in a mausoleum in Forest Cemetery, St. Paul, Minn.
