Charles LIEB, Congress, IN (1852-1928)
LIEB, Charles, a Representative from Indiana; born in Flehingen, Germany, May 20, 1852; immigrated to the United States in 1868 and settled in Rockport, Ind.; attended the public schools, the Rockport Collegiate Institute, and Bryant and Strattonâs Business College, Louisville, Ky.; employed as a bookkeeper and accountant; member of the Rockport City Council 1879-1884; engaged in the lumber business and as a contractor in 1882; postmaster of Rockport 1893-1897; member of the State house of representatives 1907-1913; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1917); was not a candidate for renomination in 1916; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1916; served as president and director of the Farmersâ Bank, Rockport, Ind.; also engaged in agricultural pursuits; died in Rockport, Ind., September 1, 1928; interment in Sun Set Hill Cemetery.
