Charles Marsh THOMSON, Congress, IL (1877-1943)
THOMSON, Charles Marsh, a Representative from Illinois; born in Chicago, Ill., February 13, 1877; attended the public schools and the Chicago Manual Training School; was graduated from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pa., in 1899 and from the Northwestern University Law School, Evanston, Ill., in 1902; was admitted to the bar in the latter year and commenced practice in Chicago, Ill.; elected a member of the city council in 1908, 1910, and again in 1912; elected as a Progressive to the Sixty-third Congress (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1915); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1914 to the Sixty-fourth Congress; elected judge of the circuit court of Cook County in 1915; reelected in 1921; appointed justice of the Appellate Court of Illinois in 1917; reappointed in 1921 and served until June 1927; resumed the practice of his profession in Chicago; trustee of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad Co. from 1933 to 1939, when he was appointed trustee of the Chicago & North Western Railroad, in which capacity he served until his death; died in Chicago, Ill., December 30, 1943; interment in Rosehill Cemetery.
