THOMPSON, Clark Wallace, a Representative from Texas; born in La Crosse, Wis., August 6, 1896; moved to Oregon in 1901 with his parents, who settled in Cascade Locks; attended the common schools and the University of Oregon at Eugene; United States Marine Corps, First World War, 1917-1918; United States Marine Corps Reserve, 1918-1940 and 1942-1946; United States Marine Corps, Second World War, 1940-1942; insurance business; business owner; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Clay Stone Briggs (June 24, 1933-January 3, 1935); was not a candidate for renomination to the Seventy-fourth Congress in 1934; resumed activities as a public relations counsel; delegate to the Texas State Democratic convention, 1936; public relations counsel; elected to the Eightieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Joseph J. Mansfield, and reelected to the nine succeeding Congresses and served until his resignation on December 30, 1966 (August 23, 1947-December 30, 1966); was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninetieth Congress in 1966; business executive; died on December 16, 1981, in Galveston, Tex.; interment in Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.
