Cyrus LOCHER, Congress, OH (1878-1929)

LOCHER, Cyrus, a Senator from Ohio; born on a farm in Putnam County, Ohio, March 8, 1878; attended the country schools; graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio, in 1903; taught in the country schools and was superintendent of schools at Woodsfield, Ohio, 1904-1905; studied law at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and graduated from the law school of Western Reserve University at Cleveland, Ohio, in 1906; admitted to the bar in 1906 and commenced practice in Cleveland in 1907; assistant city solicitor of Cleveland 1908-1910; member of the faculty of Western Reserve University 1911-1912; prosecuting attorney of Cuyahoga County 1912-1916; State director of commerce 1923-1928; appointed on April 4, 1928, as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Frank B. Willis and served from April 5, 1928, to December 14, 1928; unsuccessful candidate for the nomination in 1928 to fill the vacancy; continued the practice of law in Cleveland, Ohio, until his death there on August 17, 1929; interment in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bluffton, Ohio.
