VAN AUKEN, Daniel Myers, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Montague, Sussex County, N.J., January 15, 1826; attended the common schools and Deckertown Academy; was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1852; studied law; was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1855 and commenced the practice of law in Milford, Pa.; served as prosecuting attorney of Pike County 1855-1859; elected as a Democrat to the Fortieth and Forty-first Congresses (March 4, 1867-March 3, 1871); was not a candidate for reelection in 1870 to the Forty-second Congress; resumed the practice of law in Milford, Pa.; served as district attorney of Pike County, Pa., 1893-1896 and 1899-1903; continued the practice of law until his death in Milford, Pa., on November 7, 1908; interment in Milford Cemetery.
