SCHAEFER, Daniel, a Representative from Colorado; born in Guttenberg, Clayton County, Iowa, January 25, 1936; attended public schools; B.A., Niagara University, Niagara Falls, N.Y., 1961; attended the Potsdam University, Potsdam, N.Y., 1961-1964; served in the United States Marine Corps, sergeant, 1955-1957; public relations consultant; elected to the Colorado general assembly, 1977-1978; Colorado senate, 1979-1983; delegate, Colorado State Republican conventions, 1972-1982; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-eighth Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative-elect John L. Swigert, and reelected to the seven succeeding Congresses (March 29, 1983-January 3, 1999); was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Sixth Congress in 1998; died on April 16, 2006, in Wheat Ridge, Colo.
