DUNPHY, Edward John, a Representative from New York; born in New York City May 12, 1856; attended the public schools and St. Francis Xavier College, New York City; was graduated from Mount St. Maryâs College, Emmitsburg, Md., in 1876; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1878 and commenced practice in New York City; connected with the law department of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad Co.; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second, and Fifty-third Congresses (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1895); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of Justice (Fifty-third Congress); was not a candidate for reelection in 1894; continued the practice of law in New York City until his death there on July 29, 1926; interment in Calvary Cemetery.
