Egbert TEN EYCK, Congress, NY (1779-1844)

TEN EYCK, Egbert, a Representative from New York; born in Schodack, Rensselaer County, N.Y., April 18, 1779; was graduated from Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., in 1799; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1807 and commenced practice in Watertown, N.Y.; member of the State assembly in 1812 and 1813 and served as speaker; supervisor of Jefferson County in 1816; trustee of the village of Watertown in 1816; one of the incorporators of the Jefferson County National Bank; first secretary of the Jefferson County Agricultural Society in 1817; president of the village of Watertown in 1820; delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1822; elected as a Crawford Republican to the Eighteenth Congress (March 4, 1823-March 3, 1825); presented credentials as a Member-elect to the Nineteenth Congress and served from March 4 to December 15, 1825, when he was succeeded by Daniel Hugunin, Jr., who contested his election; was judge of the Jefferson County courts for nine years; died in Watertown, Jefferson County, N.Y., April 11, 1844; interment in Brookside Cemetery.
