Frank William TOWEY, Jr., Congress, NJ (1895-1979)

TOWEY, Frank William, Jr., a Representative from New Jersey; born in Jersey City, Hudson County, N.J., November 5, 1895; attended Manresa Hall Grammar School and St. Peters High School, Jersey City, N.J.; was graduated from Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass., in 1916 and from the law department of Fordham University, New York City in 1919; commissioned as a second lieutenant of Infantry, United States Army, in September 1918, and served until honorably discharged in January 1919; was admitted to the bar in 1920 and commenced practice in Newark, N.J.; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth Congress (January 3, 1937-January 3, 1939); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1938 to the Seventy-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; member of State of New Jersey Selective Appeal Board from October 1940 to April 1947; assistant to the Attorney General of the United States, Department of Justice, at New York City, 1943-1955; resided in Caldwell, N.J.; died in Montclair N.J., September 4, 1979; interment in Acacia Memorial Park, Seattle, Wash.
