LEONARD, Fred Churchill, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Elmer, Potter County, Pa., February 16, 1856; attended the public schools, the State normal school at Mansfield, Pa., and Williston Seminary, Easthampton, Mass.; was graduated from Yale College in 1883; studied law in Wellsboro, Pa.; was admitted to the bar in 1885; moved to Elmira, N.Y., and thence, in 1887, to Coudersport, Potter County, Pa., and practiced law; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1895-March 3, 1897); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1896; resumed the practice of law in Coudersport, Pa.; served as United States marshal for the western district of Pennsylvania from January 15, 1898, until May 6, 1901, when he was transferred to the middle district and served until July 2, 1906; engaged in banking; died in Coudersport, Pa., December 5, 1921; interment in Eulalia Cemetery.
