James Henry JONES, Congress, TX (1830-1904)

JONES, James Henry, a Representative from Texas; born in Shelby County, Ala., September 13, 1830; moved with his parents to Talladega County, Ala., in early youth; pursued an academic course; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1851 and commenced practice in Henderson, Tex.; during the Civil War enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as captain, lieutenant colonel, and colonel of the Eleventh Texas Infantry; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1887); resumed the practice of law in Henderson, Tex., and died there March 22, 1904; interment in the New Cemetery.
