MITCHELL, James S., a Representative from Pennsylvania; born near Rossville, Warrington Township, York County, Pa., in 1784; attended the common schools; member of the state house of representatives 1812-1814; elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress, reelected as a Jackson Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, and elected as a Jacksonian to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1821-March 3, 1827); moved to Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1827, and later to Belleville, St. Clair County, Ill., where he died in 1844; interment at Dillsburg, Pa.
