Jason Brevoort BROWN, Congress, IN (1839-1898)
BROWN, Jason Brevoort, a Representative from Indiana; born in Dillsboro, Dearborn County, Ind., February 26, 1839; attended the common schools and Wilmington Academy, Dearborn County, Ind.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1860 and commenced practice in Brownstown, Ind.; member of the State house of representatives 1862-1866; member of the State senate in 1870; secretary of the Territory of Wyoming 1873-1875; moved to Seymour, Ind., in 1875; again a member of the State senate 1880-1883; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second, and Fifty-third Congresses (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1895); chairman, Committee on Elections (Fifty-third Congress); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1894; resumed the practice of law in Seymour, Jackson County, Ind., and died there March 10, 1898; interment in Riverview Cemetery.
