DemocratCULVER, John Chester, a Representative and a Senator from Iowa; born in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., August 8, 1932; attended Cedar Rapids public schools; graduated Harvard College in 1954; served in the United States Marine Corps 1955-1958, and was discharged with rank of captain; served as dean of men of Harvard University Summer School in 1960; graduated Harvard Law School in 1962; admitted to the bar in 1963, and commenced practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-ninth Congress and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1965-January 3, 1975); was not a candidate for reelection in 1974; was elected in 1974 as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served from January 3, 1975, to January 3, 1981; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1980; resumed the practice of law in Washington, D.C.; is a resident of Washington, D.C.
