BROCKWAY, John Hall, a Representative from Connecticut; born in Ellington, Tolland County, Conn., January 31, 1801; pursued preparatory studies and was graduated from Yale College, New Haven, Conn., in 1820; taught school; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1823 and commenced practice in Ellington; member of the State house of representatives 1832-1838; served in the State senate in 1834; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1839-March 3, 1843); prosecuting attorney for Tolland County from 1849 to 1867, when he resigned; died in Ellington, Conn., July 29, 1870; interment in Ellington Center Cemetery.
