John MOFFET, Congress, PA (1831-1884)
MOFFET, John, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in County Antrim, Ireland, April 5, 1831; immigrated to the United States with his parents, who settled in Philadelphia, Pa.; attended the public schools in Philadelphia, Pa.; studied medicine in the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia and became an apothecary in 1853; also engaged in the practice of medicine; presented credentials as a Democratic Member-elect to the Forty-first Congress and served until he was succeeded by Leonard Myers, who contested his election, (March 4, 1869-April 9, 1869); resumed the practice of pharmacy and medicine in Philadelphia, Pa., where he died June 19, 1884; interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
