O’NEILL, John, a Representative from Ohio; born in Philadelphia, Pa., December 17, 1822; attended the common schools at Frederick, Md., and Georgetown College, Washington, D.C.; was graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, Md., and from the law department of Georgetown College, Washington, D.C., in 1841; was admitted to the bar in 1842; moved to Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, in 1844 and commenced the practice of law; prosecuting attorney of Muskingum County in 1845; held various county offices; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1865); resumed the practice of his profession; member of the State senate 1883-1885; practiced law until his death in Zanesville, Ohio, May 25, 1905; interment in St. Thomas’ Cemetery.
