HORNBECK, John Westbrook, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Montague, Sussex County, N.J., January 24, 1804; completed preparatory studies and was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1827; studied law; was admitted to the bar of Northampton County, Pa., in 1829 and commenced practice in Allentown, Pa., in 1830; commissioned deputy attorney general of the State of Pennsylvania for the county of Lehigh in 1836 and served three years; elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress and served from March 4, 1847, until his death in Allentown, Pa., January 16, 1848; chairman, Committee on Revisal and Unfinished Business (Thirtieth Congress); interment in Allentown Cemetery.
