KENDALL, Jonas, (father of Joseph Gowing Kendall), a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Leominster, Worcester County, Mass., October 27, 1757; pursued an academic course; engaged in the manufacture of paper in Leominster, Mass., in 1796; member of the State house of representatives in 1800, 1801, 1803-1807, and 1821; served in the State senate 1808-1811; member of the school board in 1803, 1811, and 1814; member of the executive council in 1822; presidential elector on the Federalist ticket in 1816; elected as a Federalist to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1819-March 3, 1821); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1820 to the Seventeenth Congress; resumed the manufacture of paper; died in Leominster, Mass., October 22, 1844; interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
