Joshua William SWARTZ, Congress, PA (1867-1959)
SWARTZ, Joshua William, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County, Pa., June 9, 1867; raised on his fatherâs farm; attended the rural schools, Lebanon Valley College, and Williamsport Commercial School; was graduated from the law department of Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., in 1892; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Harrisburg, Pa.; member of the State house of representatives 1915-1917; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1925-March 3, 1927); declined to become a candidate for reelection in 1926; resumed the practice of law until his death in Harrisburg, Pa., May 27, 1959; interment in Paxtang Cemetery, Paxtang, Pa.
