Orren Cheney MOORE, Congress, NH (1839-1893)
MOORE, Orren Cheney, a Representative from New Hampshire; born in New Hampton, Belknap County, N.H., August 10, 1839; attended the public schools; learned the trade of printer and became a journalist; member of the State house of representatives in 1863, 1864, 1875, 1876, and 1878; established the Nashua Daily Telegraph in 1869; member of the State tax commission in 1878; served in the State senate 1879-1881; again a member of the State house of representatives in 1887; chairman of the State railroad commission 1884-1888; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-first Congress (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1891); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1890 to the Fifty-second Congress; resumed former pursuits as editor and publisher; died in Nashua, Hillsborough County, N.H., on May 12, 1893; interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
