BARTON, Richard Walker, a Representative from Virginia; born at âShady Oak,â near Winchester, Frederick County, Va., in 1800; pursued academic studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Winchester, Va.; member of the State assembly in 1823-1824, 1832-1835 and 1839; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1842 to the Twenty-eighth Congress; resumed the practice of his profession in Winchester, Va.; died on his estate, âSpringdale,â near Winchester, Frederick County, Va., March 15, 1859; interment in the family burying ground at âSpringdale.â
