HAMMETT, William Henry, a Representative from Mississippi; born March 25, 1799, in Dunmaway County Cork, Ireland; studied theology and medicine; elected Chaplain of the House of Representatives on December 12, 1832, and served until December 10, 1833; chaplain of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., 1833-1834; chaplain of the Virginia state house of delegates; moved to Princeton, Miss.; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1843-March 3, 1845); died June 9, 1861, in Washington County, Mississippi.
