William Henry LARRABEE, Congress, IN (1870-1960)
LARRABEE, William Henry, a Representative from Indiana; born on a farm near Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Ind., February 21, 1870; attended the public schools, Indiana Central Normal School at Danville, and Indiana State Normal School at Terre Haute; taught in public schools at New Palestine, Ind., 1889-1895; was graduated from the Indiana School of Medicine at Indianapolis in 1898; commenced practice of medicine and surgery in New Palestine, Ind., in 1898; secretary of Hancock County Board of Health in 1917 and 1918; served on the city council of New Palestine, Ind., 1916-1920; member of the State house of representatives 1923-1925; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second and to the five succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1931-January 3, 1943); chairman, Committee on the Census (Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses), Committee on Education (Seventy-fifth through Seventy-seventh Congresses); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1942 to the Seventy-eighth Congress; resumed the practice of medicine and surgery; died in New Palestine, Ind., November 16, 1960; interment in New Palestine Cemetery.
