William HOGE, Congress, PA (1762-1814)

HOGE, William, (brother of John Hoge), a Representative from Pennsylvania; born near Hogestown, Cumberland County, Pa., in 1762; received a limited schooling; moved to western Pennsylvania in 1782, where he and his brother John founded the town of Washington, Pa.; member of the State house of representatives in 1796 and 1797; elected as a Republican to the Seventh and Eighth Congresses and served from March 4, 1801, until his resignation on October 15, 1804; elected to the Tenth Congress (March 4, 1807-March 3, 1809); retired to his farm near Washington, Pa., where he died September 25, 1814; interment in the âOld Graveyard.â
